Former East Baseball Player Makes All-Star Team
Big honor for a former Titan baseball player.
Landon Simpson of East, selected to the first annual Coastal Bend Coaches Association All-Star team.. Simpson, a first team All-District pick this season, batted .316 with a homer, 15 RBI’s, 28 runs scored and 15 stolen bases. I talked with Landon Simpson Friday afternoon. “Just like you said, it’s another opportunity for me to put the uniform on. I’ll really miss being a Titan and having that proudly across my chest. It just feels great and really all the honor goes out to the coaches and my teammates that really put me in this position.”
Other area players picked for the Coastal Bend Coaches Association baseball All-Star game include West’s Noah Rodriguez, Cuero’s Cole Payne and Payton Walk, Logan Moya of Goliad and Raymond Martinez of Bloomington. The game is Sunday afternoon at 5:00 in Sinton.he Houston Astros have activated catcher Brian McCann from the disabled after he was sidelined because of right knee soreness.
McCann was in a 1-for-26 slide that dropped his batting average to .219 before going on the 10-day DL on May 29. He was activated on the first day he was eligible and was in the lineup batting eighth against the Texas Rangers on Friday night.
The Astros designated catcher Tim Federowicz for assignment to make room for McCann. Federowicz backed up Max Stassi and appeared in two games during McCann’s absence.
McCann has four homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games.
Shortstop Carlos Correa was out of the lineup for a second straight day because of soreness in his right side.
