Ford and Mazda to fight latest Takata airbag recall
An automaker is fighting back against the latest expansion of the Takata airbag recall.
Ford is fighting the latest expansion of the Takata airbag inflator recall. Takata filed documents with the government adding 2.7 million vehicles to the recall from Ford, Nissan and Mazda. Tests showed the inflator propellant can degrade and pose a safety risk. Nissan has agreed to recall more than 500,000 vehicles, but Ford and Mazda have filed petitions to avoid a recall. Ford, which has two million vehicles involved in the latest recall says the propellant has not deteriorated in any of its inflators. Mazda, which used to be owned by ford said its trucks are based on ford’s ranger, so it is following ford in seeking a recall exemption.
