Food Bank of the Golden Crescent extends reach with mobile food pantries

The food bank's mobile food pantry distributes to several counties in the Crossroads

VICTORIA, Texas – For communities like Bloomington where access to fresh food is limited, the Food Bank of Golden Crescent has a mobile pantry service that goes out to rural areas to distribute food for those unable to travel to the closest big box grocery store.

Jessica Gumm, Development Director for the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent shares more.

“Our staff will visit different rural areas that maybe don’t have a member agency there to distribute food or access to a grocery store,  so our staff will go to those areas. They work with volunteers in that area as well, and its kind of a drive-thru set up, the cars line up and they just hand them their food, that’s basically how that works,” Gumm said.

The food bank’s mobile food pantry distributes to communities in Calhoun, Refugio, Wharton, Jackson, Gonzales, Matagorda and Victoria counties, go here to learn more about their schedule.
