Flyers begin first full week of preseason workouts
VICTORIA, Texas — The Flyers may have enjoyed a turnaround season a year ago, but just a few days into preseason practices, they’ve made it clear bigger things could be coming.
“We had some winnable games, that we folded down the stretch, where we just made mistakes down the stretch,” said head football coach Bryan Jones on Monday. “We’re gonna learn from those, and we learned from them then.”
Despite the measured optimism, Flyer football is enjoying its first run of success in quite some time. The team went 6-4 in the regular season a year ago, before bowing out in the playoffs to Austin Regents. They’ll open up their 2019 season with a scrimmage against Holy Cross on August 16th, before hosting Shiner St. Paul at Patti Welder for week one on September 6th.
The Flyers will return seven All-District players to this year’s football team, including All-State defensive end and left tackle D’Ary Patton. In total, they’re returning seven starters on offense, and six on defense
