Five-time gold medalist helps youth with swimming

Josh Davis give speech on tips to improve as a swimmer and person

VICTORIA, Texas — The VISD Aquatic Center hosted a five-time Olympic gold medalist to speak with the youth in the sport.

After he competed in the Olympics, Josh Davis, was asked by coaches to attend their practices and speak with their athletes. April 30, Davis spoke to the young Victoria swimmers and their parents about his climb to the top, as well as tips to help make the athletes better swimmers and people. Davis preaches good technique, attitude, grades, being able to work through pain and listening to your parents. Davis says the most important thing for anyone to thrive, is having unconditional love from their loved ones.

You see, an unconditional love environment is the safest environment for us to go all out and fail and get back up again and fail and get back up again and fail and get back up again, said Davis. The only way you are going to be the best in the world is if you have an environment to fail and get back up.

Davis took time to sign autographs and take photos with fans. In his speech, Davis said a surprising statement. He said his favorite medal is the silver medal he won in Australia because even though he took second place, he swam the faster than he had ever swam before. Another one of his messages is, as long as you do your best, you have nothing to be ashamed of.
