First responders teach the dangers of pipeline accidents

First responders, pipeline operators and the general public took part of the Enertech pipeline digging demonstration Thursday afternoon at the Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex.

Through a safety class and mock demonstration, attendees learned the dangers of a pipeline accident and how best to respond to the dangers.

Liaison trainer Rick Lemons has an important piece of advice for everyone before they plan to dig.

“To stress to the general public to make that call because once they see the amount of assets that are committed to this situation then it could be completely avoidable. Now we have fire teams, emergency response teams, helicopters. All of these assets are on the ground because somebody failed to make that call,” Lemons said.
