First local resident receives new home under federal program
The resident's previous home was destroyed during Hurricane Harvey
VICTORIA, Texas – City leaders welcomed a Victoria resident into a new home on Friday, Sept. 9. Hurricane Harvey destroyed the resident’s previous home.
In 2018, the Department of Housing and Urban Development notified the City of Victoria Development Services of its eligibility for funding through its HOME Investment Partnerships Program. These funds, awarded through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, will help with the reconstruction of homes that had been damaged by Harvey.
According to Development Services Director Julie Fulgham, the program saw few qualified applicants due to the strict federal requirements. Out of the 30 applications received, only five met the requirements, and all of them received funding.
According to a City of Victoria press release, all five homes are expected to be complete by the end of October.
Development Services occasionally receives funding from Housing and Urban Development for community development programs. You can find more information by visiting www.victoriatx.gov/cdbg.
