First day results from Claud Jacobs Invitational

The 5th annual UHV Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational teed off on Sunday. The men played 36 holes at the Victoria Country Club, while the women played 18 holes at The Club at Colony Creek.

The UHV A-team jumped from seventh place to fourth place after rounds of 317 and 305, for a day-one total of 622. The UHV B-team actually outscored the A-team in the second round by three strokes, but the B-team suffered when James Rollins’ first round was disqualified after signing an incorrect scorecard. The B-team now sits in 5th place, two strokes behind the A-team. Wayland Baptist posted the top score of 595 to take a three-shot lead into the final round.

UHV’s Preston Woodard had the best second round of the entire tournament, posting a 2-under par 70. Woodard is tied for third going into the final round and just two strokes off the lead with a 148. Cristian Esparza and Terry Strickland led the UHV A-team, both with a 151. They are tied for 11th place.

After the first round of the women’s tournament, the UHV women are in last place out of seven teams. As a group, they shot 368 on the day. Defending champion and top-ranked Oklahoma City is in first place with a team score of 313.

Shelbi Vincent had the best day out of the Jaguar women. She shot 11-over par for an 83 and is tied for 17th in the individuals. Oklahoma City’s Emma Allen is in the lead after an even-par first round. For the other Jaguars, Viviana Yzquierdo shot an 88, Jo Ellen Canales posted a 93, and Reid Whaley followed with a 104.

The men’s and women’s tee times for the final round on Monday have been pushed back to 10 a.m. due to the weather forecast.
