Firefighters fight blaze caused by a train derailment
OKLAUNION, Texas – Several crews are at the scene of a train derailment that resulted in a fire.
The Wichita Falls Fire Department along with crews from Sheppard Air Force Base and the Vernon Fire Department were at the scene battling the fire along with other crews.
As many as 11 cars were derailed from the track and ten of them were on fire.
The company who owns the train, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, is bringing assistance from fort worth to help put out the fire.
Once that help arrives from the train company the fire effort will be up to them but the fire department will stay to assist.
The cars contained denatured alcohol which is typically used as a solvent and as fuel for alcohol burners and camp stoves.
The highway has been closed in both directions and traffic is being re-routed.
The investigation into the cause of the derailment will start once the fire is put out.
