FedEx backs away from holiday surcharges

The competition to ship your holiday packages is heating up and summer isn’t even over yet.
FedEx announced it will not add surcharges for packages shipped during the busy holiday season this year as it looks to win a larger share of shipping the millions of items now purchased online.
Yum Brands, the parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, announced disappointing second-quarter results that showed net income down 23 % due to lagging sales and higher interest expenses. But there was some good news, the company opened 174 more locations during the quarter, including franchised stores, and sales at locations open at least a year rose 3 % at KFC and 4 % at Taco Bell. However, sales were down one percent at Pizza Hut locations.
Kellogg has struggled to expand sales as more people avoid processed foods. Now the company plans to play up the fiber content of its packaged foods and later this year will launched a new Special K cereal that contains probiotics – which are usually found in products like yogurt and fermented foods. Kellogg revenue has fallen every year since 2013, but the company hopes this new focus on fiber and probiotics will help boost sales.
