Federal Reserve leaves interest rates unchanged

The federal reserve has left interest rates unchanged, but signaled it will likely begin shrinking its $4.5 trillion asset portfolio. Federal officials purchased about $3.5 trillion treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities after the financial crisis to push down long term rates. But now, with the economy more solid, officials are concerned the low rates could drive investments to higher yielding assets, eventually creating bubbles that may burst.
