Family survives with minimal injuries after train crashes into car

Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a car and train crash that happened at 7:15 Tuesday morning on Old Bloomington Road.

Norma Ann Cruz was crossing the train tracks near FM 1686 with her 3-year-old granddaughter, when a train crashed into their 2004 Ford Expedition.

DPS Spokesperson Sgt. Ruben San Miguel says fog made it difficult to see. The train hit the front left bumper and side of the car at a relatively slow speed, pushing the car into a ditch next to the tracks.

Cruz and her granddaughter were treated at the scene for minimal injuries. The investigzation is still ongoing, so it’s unclear whether or not Cruz will receive any citations for failing to yield.
