Family okay after car fire on US 77 near Old Refugio Road

A family of four is okay after their car caught on fire on US 77 South near Old Refugio Road.

Multiple agencies responded to the car fire around 4:30 Monday afternoon.

County Fire Marshal Richard Castillo says the family was driving towards Houston when their tire blew out.

After a forced stop onto the grass, the car’s exhaust back fired, causing the nearby grass to catch fire.

The family were able to evacuate the car safely.

The fire was put out ten minutes after the call was made.

No injuries were reported on the scene.
