Exxon Mobil fined for violating sanctions on Russia
An oil giant is facing a big fine from the government over business practices with Russia.
The treasury department has fined Exxon Mobil $2 million for showing reckless disregard for U.S. sanctions on Russia while Rex Tillerson was the company’s CEO. The breach of sanctions during Tillerson’s tenure at the oil giant raises questions about his ability to enforce sanctions and persuade European countries to keep doing so. Exxon Mobil is suing the government to stop the fine.
