Exclusive inside look of the UHV University Commons building

The University of Houston Victoria’s University Commons student center is making progress and should be ready to open to students this fall.

We walked through the doors on the first floor and saw where the future food service will be. It will have a Chick-Fil-A along with a Starbucks coffee shop.

“That will naturally draw lots of students and it will draw me from time to time, and I’m sure folks from the community as well because there isn’t a Chick-Fil-A on this side of town,” laughs Dr. Bob Glenn, UHV President.

Also, on the first floor is an open area for students to relax and have fun with friends.

“Students will come to be with their friends and family and put their feet up while watching entertainment,” tells Dr. Glenn.

Our David Gibson visited inside the University Commons building where he says it is nice and the students will love it. Dr. Glenn says there will be library inside and much more.

“The library is the heart of the campus. It’s where students can get access to all the educational resources they need to do their work,” explains Dr. Glenn. “So that’s on the second and third floors, then the office of student activities, student services. Those offices that provide directly for students welfare, life, activities while on campus.”

In the library students will have unique seating along with 18 different study rooms.

UHV Communications Manger Ashley Strevel believes this will be great for the students.

“We all look forward to it, I know the community and students look forward to it, so we are just excited, it’s going to be great,” declares Ashley Strevel, Communications Manager.

“It’s the den of the campus it’s the place that is the warmest and most familiar,” exclaims Dr, Glenn.

President Glenn believes this is a big step in making UHV a destination university.

“It’s really going to help us take a quantum leap to being a residential campus and giving the students an opportunity to be occupied seven days a week around the clock,” adds Dr. Glenn.

UHV hopes to have the university commons building in the fall semester.
