ERCOT requests Texans to conserve energy
Starting on Sunday, June 13, ERCOT requested for all Texans to conserve energy usage until Saturday, June 19.
VICTORIA, Texas – On Monday, June 14, some power plant outages occurred around the state.
Yet, these current outages rates are unusually higher than previous summers.
Even with the typical summer heat expected in Texas, ERCOT has requested everyone to conserve energy usage for this week.
The company hasn’t given a full explanation for this request, despite the sudden outages during the winter storm early in February.
In the meantime, ERCOT still provided Texans with tips on how to conserve energy.
Energy Conservation Tips
- Program your thermostat to raise the temperature 78 degrees higher every time you leave your home
- Make sure all A.C. filters are clean and changed out because every increased cooling degree uses by 6 – 8 percent more energy
- Use natural lighting whenever feasible or turn off lights that aren’t in use
- Turn off pool pumps and avoid using large appliances like ovens, washing machines, and dryers
ERCOT is requesting for all Texans to turn off or unplug any appliances that aren’t in use this week.
AEP has some energy conservation tips for the local community as well.
