Environmental quality commission to analyze water samples at a new migrant facility
AUSTIN – A new fourth holding facility for unaccompanied minors will be opening up in West Texas.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has tasked the Texas Commissioner on Environmental Quality to make sure the water is safe for consumption at the new facility, located in Pecos.
“They [TCEQ] are continuing to look into conditions in the Midland facility, where water was determined to be unusable for consumption,” Abbott said in a statement Saturday. “The Biden Administration continues to show that it is dangerously unprepared to handle the surge in illegal border crossings as they rush to open yet another facility for unaccompanied minors in Texas.”
On March 6, Abbott announced Operation Lone Star to send law enforcement personnel and resources to high threat areas along the border.
On March 17, he expanded the operation to include anti-human trafficking efforts.
