It’s that time of year again when the Summer activities end, and the Fall pumpkin activities begin.
Brooke Mercer, the Director of Children’s Ministries at The First United Church of Victoria said, “We started the Pumpkin Patch about 28 years ago, it was something we wanted to do to reach out to people in our community. We’re a downtown church, so we wanted to reach out to our neighbors and make some connections and the event kind of grew and grew over the years.
First United Methodist Church Of Victoria has opened its Annual October Pumpkin Patch to the public. All throughout this month, several children will visit this event.
“There will be hundreds of kids from all the different schools, and elementary schools here in Victoria that come out to visit us, we read to them, we play games with them. It’s just a great way to reach out to the community,” said Mercer.
All the funds raised will go to the youth mission trips, children’s camps, school ministries, and Scout Troop 463. Mercer spoke about how many pumpkins they are looking to sell.
“I think we received about 8,000 pumpkins. Every year the pumpkins come from a farm in New Mexico, and they bring them down on a giant truck. We have a lot of people from the community that helps us unload them,” said Mercer.
The Pumpkin Patch hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
