Empire’s Jussie Smollett pleas not guilty in court
CHICAGO, Illinois — “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett was back in court today in Chicago and entered a not guilty plea.
This is after appearing on his show “Empire” the night before. The first new episode to air since the actor’s been charged with a crime.
Last Thursday a grand jury charged Smollett with 16 felony counts, accusing the actor of lying to investigators and staging his attack.
It was back in January Smollett told Police he was the victim of a hate crime.
But investigators contend Smollett orchestrated the attack, and paid the men to carry it out, to boost his public profile and salary.
