VICTORIA, Texas – A previous city council member, Emett Alvarez, has filed to run for Mayor of Victoria.

Now there are three candidates running for the city’s sudden vacancy, after Rawley McCoy passed away in March.

Currently, Mayor Pro Tem, Josephine Soliz, has taken on the Mayor’s duties until the special election.

The current race includes candidates David Crook, Jeff Bauknight, and Emett Alvarez.

Emett Alvarez said he has the time to dedicate to Victoria as Mayor and believes his strong background in business and economics will help him in the position.

District 3 Council member, Jeff Bauknight, wants to follow in McCoy’s leadership example if he is elected.

David Crook, a veteran and student, said he applied to run but believes his blunt personality will help the city.

The special election is set for Saturday, July 3.
