“El Chapo” denied new trial
NEW YORK — “El Chapo” isn’t getting a new trial.
A federal judge denied Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s request for an evidentiary hearing.
Guzman’s attorneys asked for a new trial based on reports that jurors engaged in misconduct by following media coverage.
It’s another blow for “El Chapo” — last month, his request for better prison conditions was denied.
A federal judge claimed some of his demands might have been a ruse aimed at helping him escape.
The former leader of the Sinaloa cartel is serving life in prison after being found guilty on drug trafficking charges in February.
