El Campo law enforcement, school district work on active shooter response

El Campo I.S.D. superintendent reached out to ECPD

EL CAMPO, Texas – Following the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, El Campo I.S.D. Superintendent Bob Callaghan reached out to the El Campo Police Department.

ECPD, along with school staff, walked through the school campuses. The recommended security improvements for El Campo I.S.D.

The El Campo Police Department, Wharton County Sheriff’s Office and the El Campo Office of Emergency Management will collaborate with the district on a School Safety Committee.

The police department, along with the Office of Emergency Management, public safety and school officials, have began holding active shooter tabletop exercises and drills. They are also working with ALERRT to host a train-the-trainer class. The class will help improve in-house training for active shooter responses.

ECPD will also offer a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events course to any local civic organization, church, business and more. Corporal Mark Biskup is a certified Active Shooter Instruction through ALERRT. He provides presentations on this subject throughout the year.
