El Campo ISD employee arrested after hiding camera in boy’s restroom at elementary school
EL CAMPO, Texas — A former El Campo Independent School District building maintenance man has been arrested a small camera he hid in the boy’s restroom was discovered.
El Campo ISD released a statement on their website informing parents and students of the incident.
“On November 18 during routine building maintenance, El Campo ISD discovered a small, hidden camera in a boy’s bathroom at Northside Elementary school. ECISD moved swiftly to notify El Campo Police Department. ECPD identified a suspect using school video surveillance resources.”
A report released by El Campo Police confirms that the camera “did contain video/photographs of unknown male students.”
The suspect is a contract Aramark food worker, Scott Gelardi, 42 of Rosenberg, Texas.
Gelardi was arrested on Tuesday morning as he arrived to work on the charge of Improper Photography/ Video Bath Room, a felony in the state of Texas. Further investigation lead to additional charges including Possession of Child Pornography, and Possession of Child Pornography with Intent to Promote.
Other restrooms and locker rooms on El Campo ISD’s campuses were also checked and no other cameras or recording devices were found.
All employees and individuals working on the campuses are meant to go through “strict and extensive” background checks, according to El Campo ISD.
The investigation is ongoing and El Campo ISD is in full cooperation with law enforcement. The school district states that no further statements will be made at this time. Any and all persons working on school campuses are subject to strict and extensive background checks.
