Eight Sandcrabs Named to All-District Team
VICTORIA, Texas — Calhoun football may have been eliminated from the playoffs, but the team is still receiving accolades.
Eight members of the 2018 Sandcrabs football team were named to the District 15-5A Division II all-district first team on Saturday. Quarterback Conner Kestler was awarded first team quarterback honors, while former athlete of the week Steve Johnson was named a unanimous pick at the fullback position. Calhoun seniors Daniel Martinez, David Fernandez and Sebastian Rios all got offensive first team nods as well, with junior Caleb Harrington joining the group.
On the defensive side, seniors Miguel Valadez and Sylias Montgomery were named first team selections as well.
Kestler and Johnson were a large part of Calhoun’s offensive success in 2018, rushing for 1865 yards and 2324 yards on the season, respectively. Kestler added 31 total touchdowns while Johnson had twelve rushing scores to his name.
The Sandcrabs went 10-4 overall before losing to Calallen, 48-17, in the regional finals.
