Edna Discusses Brush Pick Up Controversy
The Edna City Council agenda summary form given out at Thursday’s meeting says, According to Mike Reeves of Republic Services, the previous Edna City Manager Ken Knight, verbally agreed to allow Republic Services to take brush debris to the Jackson County Transfer Station. This would allow more pick ups for brush debris because it would be a lesser distance for Republic Services to haul. The transfer station used to burn brush debris. The City of Edna says they have paid approximately $30,808.28 since the “supposed conversation” with Ken Knight. At present the City of Edna has a pending bill of $23,169.76 for chipping. At Thursday’s meeting council members decided to pay Jackson County the money, but hold the next invoice from Republic services. Next Tuesday Edna City Council members will have an executive session to decide what will be the plan going forward.
