The Edna football team and new head coach Jimmie Mitchell prepare for their season
EDNA,Texas–The Edna football team got an early practice in on Saturday morning. First year football head coach, Jimmie Mitchell says some key players who started last year are returning for another season. However the team doesn’t have a lot of seniors, making it a younger team. Mitchell says even though they are young, they have a lot of talent going into this season. They will have some tough matches during their pre-district games. Starting off with East Bernard, a renowned program in the area along with the 2019 State Champions the Refugio Bobcats.
“It could be tough for a little while until we get comfortable being out there on Friday nights. All teams are different. Some pick up to it real quick and it takes others longer but we’ve got to get them comfortable playing on Friday nights, the speed of the game and all that. I think it’ll come fairly quickly but it’s going to be a learning experience for them,” said Mitchell.
Last season, the Edna Cowboys had a record of 8-4. They lost in the second round of the 3a division 1 playoffs to George West. They will have their first game of the 2020 season August 28th on the road against the east Bernard Brahmas.
