East, West hold first official practices of 2019

VISD football is officially back.

Both East and West held their first day of official practice on Monday, with the Titans suiting up at sunrise on their practice fields, and the Warriors playing under the lights Monday evening at Memorial.

“You know there’s great continuity, it’s the first day of practice, everybody’s up and excited,” said East head coach Roland Gonzalez after practice. “It’s really easy to come out and be in it.”

The Titans finished 5-3 in district last season, falling in the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors narrowly missed a playoff berth but will return three starters on offense — including their quarterback and running back — and six on defense.

Before West’s practice, head coach Courtney Boyce said his team’s conditioning has really stood out.

“They just did a conditioning test and I thought it was one of the best conditioning tests we’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Boyce. “These guys have been here all summer and it showed today during that test.”

The Titans will open the regular season on the road against West Columbia on Friday, August 30th. The Warriors will host Calhoun at Memorial on the same night.
