East-West Girls Basketball Preview

Titans, Warriors Bound For Playoffs

East and West girls basketball wrap up their regular season playing against each other Tuesday night.

The Titan girls are at 12-3 in district, good enough to clinch the third place playoff spot in. After winning big last Friday night at king, the titans are trying to go 7-1 in the second half of district play. I talked with two Titan girls about how well they are playing now.

Said point guard Giani Wimbish-Gay, “We feel really good about where we are. It’s not where we hoped to be but we’re giving all our glory to God. As a team we’re working harder together and we’re pushing each other to be the best that we can be.”

Said wing/post Zakari Perry, “Our defense is really great. I feel our defense will win games and will turn our offense into being very very good. ”

With their big Friday night home win over Moody, West girls basketball clinched the fourth and final playoff spot in district with a six-point win. The Warrior girls have their bi-district playoff set against against Flour Bluff a week from Tuesday night in Woodsboro. Two West girls told our Sean Coffey how well they are playing as they close out district.

Said senior Alana Johnson, “I think we’re finally playing together and coming together as one. I think our offense, our shooting is doing really well.”

Said junior Aaliyah Castillo, “We’re working together. We’re finally communicating as one, and we’re coming along.”

East hosts West in girls and boys basketball Tuesday night, with the girls game scheduled to start at 6:15.
