East, West girls basketball both advance to area playoffs
Victoria East and West girls basketball took turns sharing the court for their bi-district playoff games at Gonzales High School on Monday. Both teams left with area-playoff berths.
The Titans started the night with a 76-60 win over San Antonio Brackenridge. Susie Hernandez hit six three-pointers for a team-high 19 points. Imani Wimbish-Gay followed with 17 points, while Leilani Wimbish-Gay added 15. The Titan girls will face Kerrville Tivy on Friday in the area round of playoffs in Pleasanton.
The Warriors followed that performance with a bi-district win of their own, taking down San Antonio Edison 55-38. Carrie Lacy led the Warriors with 24 points. Kennedy Youngblood added 12 points. The West girls advanced to the area round and will face either Austin or Seguin.
The Goliad girls also advanced to area after defeating George West, 54-35, in the first round of playoffs in Kenedy on Monday. The leading scorers for Goliad were Roxanne Morris and Kassidy Nicholson, each with 13 points.The Tigerettes (25-7) will meet Corpus Christi London in the area round of playoffs.
