East-West Boys Soccer Preview
Both Teams Vying For Playoff Spots
East takes on West in boys soccer Tuesday night.
The East boys, coming off a 3-0 win over King last Friday night, are 3-1-3 in district play. Two Titans told me what they are doing best on the pitch right now.
Said right back John Valdez, “Progress in the season so far. We’re doing good. We’re making goals. We’re making great saves with our goalkeeper Xavier.”
Said attacking center midfielder Axel Moreno, “The best thing we’re doing is controlling the mid and taking the opportunities to score. We’re doing pretty good.”
West boys soccer, also going into their showdown with East coming off a win. The Warriors won in Corpus Christi last Friday night over Moody to up their district record to 3-2-2. Two West boys talked with our Sean Coffey about what the team’s done well so far in district.
Said senior Jayden Dolezal, “Definitely playing possession, making sure we get our possession percentage up. Really controlling the ball in the midfield, and in the attacking third.”
Said senior Kase Eliot, “I think that we’re moving the ball well down the field. Usually we’ve been trying to start a counter attack when we gain possession, but now we’re starting to gain possession, control the ball, and make accurate passes to each other.”
West hosts East in boys and girls soccer Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium. Girls game first at 6:00.
