East, West basketball looking ahead to next district games
The Titans and Warriors both competed in the Mike Smith Classic last weekend
Fresh off their latest tournaments, the Titans and Warriors are looking ahead to resuming district play.
East and West boys basketball both finished 1-2 at the Mike Smith Classic at East this weekend, with West taking third place and East fourth due to point differential. As of Monday, the Titans sport a 7-11 record overall, while the Warriors are 6-11. East is 1-2 in district play and West is 1-1.
“The kids are getting a little more comfortable, we’re still not quite where we want to be yet,” said Titans head coach John Howie. “But everyday the kids are working hard and we’re getting there step by step.”
West girls basketball, meanwhile, won the consolation B trophy at the Brazoswood Tournament over the weekend, improving to 12-10 in the process. The East girls went 1-2 at the Aggieland Tournament and are now 17-6 overall, and 3-1 in district.
“I think it’s better for us to go to tournaments and play those teams because we can see where we’re weak and where we’re stronger at,” said Titan senior Azlyn Rodriguez. “So coming back to practice I think we can work on that.”
The Warriors resume district play on New Years’ Eve with afternoon road games at Miller, while the Titans next play at Carroll on Friday evening.
