East Vs. West Girls Basketball Preview 1/9

First Meeting Between The Two Teams This Season

The first meeting between East and West in girls basketball this season, very important for both teams in the district race.

The Warrior girls dropped to 4-3 in district with a one point loss at Moody Tuesday night. Ashley Giesalhart led with 16 points. Ashley and head coach Sandra Jimenez told me how well their team is playing heading into the big showdown.

Said coach Jimenez, “We’re still doing a lot of little things right. The problem with little things is we’re still doing a lot of little things wrong. But they have definitely have a sense of unity.”

Said Giesalhart, “We’ve been doing good in pushing the ball up, getting more shooters on the team. Our defense is really great. We’re just there for each other, get the ball back when we need help and all that.”

The East girls, now 5-2 in district after rallying to win at home Tuesday night over King. An 11-0 run gave the Titans a halftime lead, and they rolled from there to win by 39 points. Brandalyn Rice led the Titan girls with 18 points, ten for Zakari Perry. Zakari and head coach Yulonda Wimbish-North told me how well the Titans are playing going into Friday’s big game.

Said coach Wimbish-North, “We played an excellent half of basketball. Obviously this won’t work for us. We have to play a whole game. We just have to get ready and prepare for Friday. ”
Said Perry, “My teammates are here to help me along the way, and we work together as a team, so that works. We’re ready for West. ”
