East Vs. West Big Girls Soccer Showdown
Warriors Need Win To Make Playoffs
A new twist to the East vs. West girls soccer rivalry.
East girls soccer has clinched its ninth straight playoff spot, and the Titan girls are locked into the second place playoff spot in district. I asked two Titan girls how important it is for them to beat West to continue momentum into the playoffs.
Said right wing Lauren Vahalik, “A win would defnitely hype up our team since West is one of our rivals. Also they will move positions if they win or lose. It depends if they go to playoffs or not. ”
Said right back Kamryn Barnett, “This game is very important for us. West is a known rival. Getting a win for this game is very important because it’ll help us get that momentum for playoffs and knowing if we can beat a hometown team we can keep going. ”
What does West girls soccer have to do Friday night against East to make the playoffs? Head coach Courtney Stoltenberg laid out this scenario to me. If the Warrior girls beat East they will probably get third place. If they tie West takes fourth place and makes the playoffs. If the West girls lose they are out, unless King loses Monday. Two Warrior girls told me how confident they are that they can win Friday night.
Said goalkeeper Macey Franz, “I’m really confident because we have more to play for. They’re already in playoffs. It’s the East-West game, they’ll want to win. But we have more to play for. ”
Said center defender Vanessa Oubre, “We’re pretty confident. We’ve been working really hard and there’s a lot of momentum going around. This is a really big game. Everyone’s prepared to put all of their effort into this game and work really hard. ”
