East Girls Basketball Player Signs With College
Perry Signs In Front Of Where She Is Employed
On the menu at Mumphord’s Barbecue in Victoria Monday, not a special plate, but a special event.
East girls basketball senior Zakari Perry could not sign with a college at her high school since VISD schools are closed during this pandemic. So Zakari picked Mumphord’s as the place for her signing with Concordia University in Austin. It’s a natural place for Perry to sign. She works part-time at Mumphord’s, and she told me she has been working there so much lately, she’s been doing her homework there. The co-owner’s of Mumphord’s, Ricky and Keith Mumphord, are Zakari’s great-uncles.
Said Perry, “I guess it’s a better opportunity because I’m at my family’s place. I would’ve liked to have had it at my school, but during the circumstances of this virus I just had to make amends with myself and with everything. It’s just a great opportunity to be signing today so I can play the sport that I love. ”
A second team all-district pick this season, Perry was on the East varsity teams for three years in basketball, volleyball and track and field.
