East Football Preview & Cuero Football Star Update
East football starts its season Friday night with a home game.
The Titans are looking to return to the playoffs after a one-year absence. They are looking for their third starting quarterback in the past three years. Head coach Roland Gonzalez tells me it will be a game-time decision between Shawn Kainer and Caleb Longoria, All-District running back Brandon Tumlinson returns for his fourth year on the East varsity. Starting center Kaleb Coffey also returns. The defense has linebacker Noah Bueno back, and as coach Gonzalez told me, lots of new faces. He told me how the Titan offense looks going into game one. “Overall I’m really excited about our performance against Bay City. We obviously didn’t do everything right but there were enough good things there for us to build on. As far as the quarterback race, those two guys are competing hard day in and day out. It’s good competition.”
East football starts the season at Memorial Stadium Friday night against West Columbia.
The latest on that game, on the season 19 premiere of Friday Football Fever, 10:20 Friday night after Newscenter 25 at Ten. Here are updates on two East 9th grade football games scheduled for Memorial Stadium. Please note that the Freshman b Game on September 27 th vs Carroll at 5 pm has been cancelled. The Freshman A game vs Carroll at 6:30
pm om September 27 th has been moved up to 5PM start
Will Cuero’s Max Preps Pre-Season All-America provide any highlights for the Gobbler fans Friday night? Cuero head coach Travis Reeve tells me that Jordan Whittington, who is suffering from a groin injury, did not play in either Gobbler scrimmage. He has had light practice on some days, says coach Reeve, but not many. As far as Friday night at home against Bay City, coach Reeve told me he is not sure if Whittington will play. He added that if the game was today, he would not play.
