East boys soccer wins, East and West girls draw

VISD soccer showdowns at Memorial Stadium Tuesday night

VICTORIA, Texas — East and West soccer battled in two VISD showdowns at Memorial Tuesday night, with the East and West girls playing to a 1-1 draw while the East boys beat West, 1-0.

In the first game, East’s Jonbenet Limon gave the Titans a 1-0 lead with an early goal, an advantage East would take into the locker room at halftime. West would respond in the second half, however, getting a goal from Skylar Shaffer to tie things up at 1. The game would end in a 1-1 draw, giving the Titans a 6-1-1 record in district and the Warriors a 4-2-2 mark, good for third place.

In game two, one goal was all the Titans needed to beat their crosstown rival and improve to 4-1-3 in district play. Juan Carlos Torres was the goal scorer for the East boys as they defeated West, 1-0 in the rain and fog at Memorial.

West boys and girls soccer will play Carroll at Memorial on Friday, while East boys and girls soccer will play at Calhoun.
