East baseball’s Kolle helps deliver meals

VICTORIA, Texas — The high school baseball season may have been cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that’s not stopping Wes Kolle from pitching in.

East’s head baseball coach has helped in VISD’s meal delivery service during the pandemic, serving up boxes of food to students at Crain Elementary at least once a week since the school district began its digital classes.

“It just shows the passion and commitment, and dedication to our school district and making it the best that it can possibly be,” said Kolle on Thursday.

VISD is utilizing a contact-less delivery service to get meals to its students during what they call “distance learning”, sometimes serving up to 400 kids just at Crain on a single day. While baseball remains on the back burner, Kolle says the time away from the game and his players has served as a reality check.

“It really puts things in perspective and allows you to take a step back and realize what’s important in your life,” Kolle said. “Spending quality time with your family, and being safe and healthy, and just helping people around the community wherever we can.”

VISD will continue delivering meals to students until at least the end of May.
