East baseball’s season ends Friday night in S.A. The Titans lose their one-game 5A Regional quarterfinal to Kerrville Tivy, 9-4. The Titans finish the season with an 19-14-1 record. Jacob Martinez was the losing pitcher. Bernard Murphy went 2-for-4 with an RBI, as did Eric Davila. Landon Simpson 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Updates now on two Cuero teams.
Lady Gobblers softball, sweeping out Sweeny, 5-2, in its 4A Regional quarterfinal series in El Campo. Cuero now faces either Bay City or Beeville Jones for the regional championship and a trip to state. Cuero baseball had to sweep Devine Friday to win its 4A Regional quarterfinals, and the Gobblers do just that
The Mean Green takes game two, 6-2, to even the series, then blows out Devine, 17-2 in five, in the deciding game. Cuero goes to the Regional semis to take on either.Sweeny or Boerne.

I was at Memorial Stadium for the action. Shawn Kainer in at quarterback, hitting Steven Flenner for a 12-yard gain. The handoff here to William Garley. That’s a 22-yard run into the red zone. Next in at quarterback, Caleb Longoria, with the ten-yard completion to Koby Levinge. Longoria then goes for a longer pass, but that is broken up by Jacoby Robinson. East football pre-season practice starts August 13 for varsity.
Reagan Doyle and Kylann Griffith may not have won a state title with Industrial girls basketball this year, but they are state champions now. Doyle and Griffith win the state 3A tennis girls doubles title, 6-4, 6-2, over Josie Wells and Hannah DeFriend of Groesbeck. The state tournament is being played at A&M.
East first-team All-District libero Samantha Fuentez, signing with Victoria College volleyball.
Fuentez recorded a team-best 358 digs last season for the Titans. She also posted 28 assists and 25 kills as a senior. The Pirates won their league volleyball championship this season.
Paxton Henley of Manning Gymnastics, leading in level ten trampoline Friday after round one of the USA Gymnastics Elite Challenge in Colorado Springs. This is Paxton’s first Elite Challenge. It wraps up Sunday. Two Victoria Gymagic girls have made the finals in level 10 11-12 trampoline. Marissa Oubre is currently second, Angelina Garza is fifth.
