East Baseball Beats #2 Team In State

Titans Tied For District Lead

Here are Monday night’s area high school baseball finals.

Spring break baseball for East continues Monday night.
I was at Riverside for the Titans and Veterans Memorial. After Zack Shannon homers for East in the first, Jacob Martinez works his way out of a jam to keep the Titans up one in the top of the fourth. Bottom of the fourth, two on, Kevin Rodriguez lays down the bunt. Jojo Villareal gets it, fakes to third, then makes a wild throw to first. Two east runs score for a 3-0 lead. Next batter for East, Joah Mendoza. That’s an RBI single. 4-0 Titans after four. East baseball beats the number two team in the state, 4-1. Titans now tie Veterans Memorial for the district lead. Martinez goes the distance, tosses a two-hitter, seven strikeouts. Wednesday at noon, East baseball continues district play in Corpus Christi against Moody.

West baseball loses Monday afternoon in district play in Port Lavaca, 8-4 to Calhoun.
Colton Salas with the loss for the Warriors. Cade Mitcherling goes 2-4 with an RBI, three hits for Bryce Sitka. Warriors now 10-6-1 on the season, 0-3 in district.
