Early morning fire destroys Victoria Islamic Center
VICTORIA (Information from Victoria Fire Dept.) – The Fire Department responded in the early morning hours of January 28th to a report of a fire at the Victoria Islamic Center at 203 E. Airline. The first responding unit reported heavy fire conditions that were visible through the roof on arrival. A defensive attack was initiated and the fire was brought under control in about 3 hours.
The City of Victoria Fire Marshall is the lead investigative agency with support from the State Fire Marshall’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Victoria Police Department Crime Scene Unit. State and Federal agencies are typically involved on large scale incidents as those agencies have specialized expertise and access to resources that will be beneficial in the investigation. The investigation is very preliminary at this stage and could take many weeks to determine the cause and origin.
There have been no reports of injuries to citizens or the responding firefighters.
