Drug smuggling in watermelons

San Antonio– According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, watermelons weren’t the only thing found in a recent shipment that was crossing the border.

Customs and Border Protection officers referred a white freight liner tractor-trailer for secondary inspection as it was stopped at the Pharr International Bridge, Wednesday, August 9.

Using a non-intrusive imaging system and canine units, officers found 65 packages of marijuana hidden in a shipment of watermelons.

The marijuana weighed just over 2,000 pounds, and is estimated to be worth approximately $460,000.
