Drones make their way to Goliad County Sheriff’s Office
The Goliad County Sheriff’s Office has obtained a camera-equipped drone for law enforcement use, and deputies are currently undergoing training on use of the new resource.
When training is completed, deputies will be able to use the drone for a variety of law enforcement and intelligence-gathering functions.
The drone is currently undergoing operational testing in a variety of scenarios.
The drone is controlled remotely with a computer tablet device.
It is also pre-programmed with object and crash-avoidance technology.
Among the anticipated uses for the drone are searches, investigations, surveillance and tracking operations.
It can also be used to search areas that could prove dangerous or inaccessible for deputies.
The drone is expected to be in regular use shortly after the first of the year.
