Drive-thru Christmas lights display at Rockport beach opens on Sunday
On Sunday, Nov. 29, at 6:00pm Rockport beach will have their first annual Drive-thru Christmas light display.
ROCKPORT-FULTON BEACH, Texas – The Rockport-Fulton Beach Chamber of Commerce initially wanted to have a socially- interactive Christmas Lights exhibit for the public this year.
However, the pandemic forced them to get creative with their original holiday display idea.
Sandy Jumper, the Vice President of Marketing for Rockport-Fulton’s Chamber of Commerce, wanted to ensure everyone’s safety and explains more on the implementation of this Christmas lights display.
“Well, it started actually in a conversation, here at the Rockport Beach Chamber of Commerce. We were talking about, we wanted to do something special in the off-season months and we thought that Christmas time would be the best time to do it. Well, fast forward a little while when COVID hit, we decided okay we’re going to have to do something that people can come, and they don’t have to get out of their car. They can just admire it from their vehicles and from that ‘Christmas on the Beach’ was born,” she said.
Starting on Sunday, November 29 through January 3, they will have a Drive-Thru Christmas lights display for anyone to drive by and see at Rockport beach.
The Aransas Navigation District is hosting it near the circle drive, at the very end of the beach.
“And we just want people to have a sense of warmth. Because this has not been the warmest year, let’s face it. So we’re really excited to be able to have just something for people to be able to come and do that is free of charge. If they want to donate, the money does go to the non-profit organizations that are displaying there. So it’s just a ‘feel-good’ type of event,” Jumper said.
Over 14 non-profit organizations will put up Christmas displays. They are accepting cash donations and you can also donate online or when you visit the Christmas beach display through the QR code they have placed on a sign.
