Rev. John Carmona passes away from COVID-19

The pastor lived for 82 years

VICTORIA, Texas- Rev. John Carmona has been the pastor of Jerusalem Family Praise Center in Victoria, Texas for the last 37 years, (since 1983). He began to feel ill the first week of July, but tested negative for COVID-19. It wasn’t until he developed shortness of breath two weeks later that he went to the ER where he was tested a second time, and the test came back positive. By this time he had developed pneumonia and a severe lung infection – he was admitted to DeTar Hospital on July 19 and immediately placed on a bipap to supplement his oxygen. By July 28, he was transferred to the hospital’s ICU and on August 1 placed on a ventilator. He went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2020 at 2:55pm.

His wife of 59 years, Rachel Carmona, also tested positive on July 20, but was well enough to recover at home when antibiotics. She has since made a full recovery.

Pastor Carmona served as International President of the UPLCII for 13 years, and General Secretary of the UPLCII for 24 years. During his office he pioneered the creation of the Bethel Bible Institute in 1970, expanded the outreach of the UPLCII into South America, and founded the National Sunday School Department while also serving as the Department’s first National Director.

Because of his lifelong service and lasting achievements in the UPLCII, his body will lie in honor at the UPLCII national headquarters in Kenedy, Texas this Saturday, August 8, from 11am-6pm (618 Dewitt Street, Kenedy Texas). There will be a graveside service for Rev. Carmona where he will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery on Tuesday, August 11, at 12 noon.
