Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption could use the community’s help

VICTORIA, Texas—During the COVID-19 Pandemic animal shelters have seen more interest in pet adoptions. It’s the same story at the Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center.

A man’s best friend can offer some major benefits and during this difficult time, so humans have reached out to animal shelters.

“We’ve probably had an interest increase of about 50% of what we normally have. People are at home wanting to spend time with pets and wanting to help foster and things of that nature,” said Jennifer Werland, Executive Director Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption.

The Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center brings in several animals from local shelters to adopt to families. The shelter is need of help.

“So we are always in need of our dog food and cleaning supplies which they can find on our Amazon wishlist. We have links on our Facebook page and our website,” said Werland.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says studies have shown the bond between people and their pets can increase fitness, lower stress, and bring happiness to the owner.

The Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center will open to the public on June 1st, but visitors will have to follow some safety guidelines.

“So do and are asking that people call and schedule for appointments when we do open for walkthroughs June 1st. We want to keep our community safe and our staff safe so that we can keep our animals healthy,” said Werland.
