Donovan Harris to Start Again for West

The West Warriors will stick with their quarterback for now.

Warriors head football coach Courtney Boyce told Don Brubaker on Tuesday that the team will start junior Donovan Harris for the second straight week. Harris got the start for the injured Jordan Fillmore last Friday night at Calhoun, leading West to a one-point victory that was aided by 173 rush yards from Tyvon Hardrick. Boyce says he’s impressed with how the team has rallied around their new starter since the preseason injury to Fillmore.

“I thought the team responded well,” Boyce said Tuesday. “Everybody was out there doing their jobs and that’s what you have to do from week to week and they did it against a very good Calhoun football team.”

Harris went 5 for 8 for 58 yards last week, adding 48 yards on the ground in his Warriors’ debut.

West will play its home opener this Friday at Memorial Stadium against San Benito. Tickets for that game will be on sale at the VISD Athletic Office located at 3001 Miori Lane, Wednesday, September 5th through Friday, September 7th. The office will be open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on those dates. Ticket prices are $7.00 for reserved, $6.00 for general admission, and $4.00 for students. A limited number of pre-paid parking passes will be sold for $2.00, and all tickets purchased at the gate at game time will be $8.00.

West is seeking consecutive wins to begin the season for the first time since the 2015 campaign, when they rattled off five in a row to start the year. Start time for their game against San Benito is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
