Doberman euthanized after biting young girl

A court ordered the euthanization of a dog that bit a girl on the face

VICTORIA, Texas – A doberman was put down after an incident with a girl. That child had to have surgery. On June 9th, animal care services received a call about a girl who was bitten by a dog. The girl was picking fleas off of the dog when the doberman turned and attacked her. the dog bite caused severe ripping and tearing of muscle from the bottom right side of the girls lip to her chin, measuring close to 2- 3 inches long and one inch wide. the girl was transported to Detar Navarro ER and later transferred to Driscoll Children’s Hospital for surgery. Chief animal care officer Jose Flores says after much deliberation, the dog had to be euthanized.

We filed for a dog that caused serious bodily injury to a person under the Texas health and safety code. That did go to one of the justice of the peace’s courts for review. After hearing all the evidence, that particular judge found that the dog did cause serious bodily injury and ordered the dog to be humanely euthanized.

Within 24 hours of the court order, the dog was euthanized. We have seen four court-ordered euthanizations this year in Victoria county.
