Disaster Declaration was signed in Victoria County

VICTORIA, Texas- Monday afternoon, Victoria Mayor Rawley McCoy and Victoria County Judge Ben Zeller took two important steps in order to prepare for COVID-19 as a community.

The first step is to follow the guidelines set by the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. At this time that includes limiting social gatherings where more than 10 people show up. The second step included Victoria Mayor Rawley McCoy and Victoria County Judge Ben Zeller declaring a Local State of Disaster due to this public health emergency.

“The Mayor of the City of Victoria and I signed Disaster Declarations which puts the county and the city in line to receive any state or federal aid that we might need down the road. What that does is set the table for us to get the resources we might need and also it sets the table for us to take any additional actions that we might need. Currently, we are only giving recommendations” said Ben Zeller,” the Victoria County Judge.

Judge Zeller says that if the local officials think it’s necessary to take additional steps he will let the community know. In the COVID-19 briefing tomorrow the V.I.S.D. Superintendent, Dr. Quintin Shepherd, will speak about any updates concerning V.I.S.D.
