DeWitt County jail COVID-19 concerns
DeWitt County jail dealing with some COVID-19 cases among inmates
DeWitt County, Texas – 25 News Now received some phone calls regarding the possible handling of inmates at the jail, specifically inmates who may have COVID-19.
DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen said all inmates who have COVID-19 or even some symptoms are isolated and under the care of the nursing staff at the jail. Sheriff Bowen says as of this morning (January 26) there were at total of 113 inmates at the jail, with 6 inmates experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
Sheriff Bowen said the county health department is scheduled to visit the jail tomorrow morning to do more testing and give vaccines to those who want them. Sheriff Bowen says at no time are inmates who have COVID-19 symptoms allowed in the same area with healthy inmates.
