Dewitt County involving a school bus sends one to the hospital

Around 7 A.M. Friday morning, a school bus was traveling north on Highway 87.
As the bus driver was trying to make a right turn onto Old Victoria Road. DPS Trooper Danny Carlin was on the scene and tells us what happened next.

“A following vehicle behind him became distracted as he was reading a text. He looked down and looked back up at the text. he realized he was about to hit the bus so the driver moved to the shoulder to avoid the crash, DPS Trooper, Danny Carlin said.

The following vehicle ended up side swiping the bus. There was 5 kids on the bus but none were injured. The bus driver had minor injuries and was taken to Cuero Community Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle will be cited for failure to control speed.
